Everyone deserves safe, secure and affordable housing. But the reality is that rental laws in NSW aren’t fair. Renters don’t experience the same security and comfort in their homes as homeowners. It’s time things changed – let’s Make Renting Fair. Sign the petition below, or download a printable version which can be lodged with parliament.

"Currently in NSW renters can be evicted from their home without being given a reason (a ‘no grounds’ termination) under sections 84 and 85 of the NSW Residential Tenancies Act 2010. We call on the NSW Parliament to make changes to current tenancy legislation to amend these provisions and improve security for renters."

The government's review of renting laws in NSW is drawing to an end – the Residential Tenancies Amendment Act 2018 has passed through Parliament and is likely to commence early 2019. But unfortunately the reforms have not touched unfair evictions.

The NSW Greens and NSW Labor recognise renters are growing in number and our outdated renting laws need to change - they have committed to ending unfair evictions. They still need to hear from the community that we want to make renting fair.

The NSW Government has publicly recognised the need for change, but with more people renting for longer we need them to commit to taking real action too.

What does your local Member of Parliament think?

Whatever party they belong to, you can usefully let your local Member of Parliament know you want them to make renting fair. Give them a call, email them or drop in to their electorate office for a chat.

We have created a range of material to help and identified some key MPs in a variety of local areas on our Campaign Resources page.
